About Riley

Hello! My name is Riley Henderson and I'm so excited to be teaching Biology here on Superprof! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Biology on a pre-Physical Therapy track, and a BFA in Modern Dance. After graduating I moved to NYC to pursue a career in Dance before eventually going to PT school to become a Physical Therapist for dancers. While I was in college I worked as a lab TA for Intro to Human Anatomy. As a TA we helped prep the cadavers for labs, answer students' questions, and help the professors come up with fun activities for students to do to help them have a better understanding of some of the concepts we were working on. In addition to being a lab TA, I've worked in Physical Therapy clinics in NYC as a Therapy Technician where I put my knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology into practice with patients, helping them to heal and learn more about their bodies! I have a huge passion for teaching others about Biology and helping them to feel confident in their understanding of these concepts and processes that play such an active part in our everyday lives. Studying Biology should be fun, not scary! I'm super excited to help you face your fears and master these challenging (and fun!) topics!

About the lesson

I love using lots of visuals, hands-on, and kinesthetic techniques to help students understand different concepts in biology. In addition to studying biology, I also study modern dance and find that using interactive ways to teach lessons can be really beneficial in helping students understand and retain information.
A typical lesson of mine would start with an overview of the topic we will be working on. Reviewing notes, looking at images and diagrams covering that topic, and answering any questions the student might have on points they find challenging. Then we'll put what we learned into practice by doing a fun activity like drawing, a puzzle, or a game related to what we just learned. Finally, at the end, I leave time for questions and reviewing any points they are having trouble with.
These lessons are ideal for high school students, those taking introductory biology, anatomy, and physiology in college and are looking for extra help, or anyone who is just interested in Biology and want to expand their knowledge.
I believe the more fun a student has while learning, the more likely they are to retain information. My goal is that students will leave these lessons with more confidence in these topics than they had coming in, and having enjoyed themselves!
