About Kason

As some background, I graduated from Winter Park High School in 2017, and I also graduated with my Bachelors in Science at the University of Miami majoring in Microbiology and Immunology and minoring in Psychology and Chemistry at the University of Miami in the spring of 2021.

I want to use this paragraph blurb just to quickly mention some of my statistics and accolades. I received a score of 1460 on my SAT (770 math score). I also received fairly high scores on a couple of SAT subject exams, with a 750 in mathematics level 2 and a 780 in physics. Before I began college, I decided on a major pertaining to biology and life sciences due to my newfound passion for learning the subject, which ended up winning me biology student of the year at my high school. Pursuing my degree, I amassed similarly great grades from high school with a 3.76 cumulative GPA upon graduation. As a general rule, I do not and would not tutor courses in which I did not receive an A or receive at least a 4 on my AP exam (if I took the corresponding AP course in high school).

I want to build an environment for my students which fosters interest in a subject and helps them to find effective studying strategies that work best for them. Ultimately, I can thank these two factors for most of my academic success, and I truly believe these outcomes can be replicated for all of my students.

About the lesson

It is important to tackle fundamentals and high-yield topics first in order to succeed on tests and quizzes in a course. I can gauge understanding and use a targeted approach in building on weaknesses to provide guidance for further practice and learning. With practice and continued evaluation, my students will sharpen a deeper understanding of the subject material, so they may answer questions with greater confidence. I have learned it is important to change approaches when learning becomes difficult with one method, and understand that not everyone is going to effectively learn a topic by just one approach.

With my lesson plans, I want to be flexible based on a student's needs and abilities. Usually, I like to start by discussing with the student what the topic at hand is first, why it is important, and warm up by pulling related ideas from previous topics before beginning with the topic of interest. Then, I like to explain the topic, followed by demonstrating problems and how I would approach them. From there, I can allow my student to try it on their own, and help guide them as needed. I like to encourage students to use approaches that are comfortable to them so I may help them effectively and efficiently find solutions. Throughout a lesson, I like to ask plenty of questions to promote active recall. After the lesson is finished, I can provide resources for further practice and tailor it to a student’s preferences.

Subjects I can tutor include both AP and introductory college courses: Biology, Physics, Chemistry (general chemistry only), Statistics, Calculus (AB or Calc 1 only), and Psychology.

I will offer a free 30 minute consultation with any inquiring students about tutoring services, subject material, or even for guidance on resources and study strategies. We can also tackle homework problems during tutoring sessions at the same rate.

Cancellation can be refunded based on extenuating circumstances or if tutoring is rescheduled.
