About Carla

As a graduate from the University of Glasgow, I constantly have people telling me that really annoying phrase "you're so clever! I could never do X, Y and Z at school." It annoys me because it's not that I'm clever and they're not, it's that the school system is not adapted for all different learning styles. 30+ people are sat in a classroom all taught in the same way and expected to get the same results. That's not how it works. I am one of the people who could learn by listening to a teacher, but there are at least half of the people in every classroom have different brains, and need a different approach. Some people learn by actively seeing how things are done, some people learn best by reading, etc. Teachers don't have enough time in a lesson to sit down one on one with each student and understand what it is they need to understand the content. That is why I like to spend the first session with each of my students getting to know their learning styles, so I can adapt my lessons to best suit them.

About the lesson

I have a Bachelor's degree in Genetics from the University of Glasgow, and an access to medicine, dentistry and pharmacy diploma from The Manchester College. My specialties in tutoring are GCSE maths and science, and I can cover Edexcel, AQA, OCR and Pearson exam boards. Everyone needs a different approach to learning, so I like to spend the first session getting to know you and what you are comfortable with, and how you feel you learn best (visual, auditory, or if you learn best by reading.) If you would like to cover both Maths and Science, I would recommend two hours per week (1 hour to cover a topic in each subject.)
