About Olivia

Having had difficulties in school myself, once upon a time thought I was academically doomed. I had been pulled out of several classes and my behaviour record was not as pristine as one would like! I struggled to focus, engage, understand and enjoy my lessons, which was exacerbated by my dyslexia (a condition I now champion as my superpower!). A teacher showed me the value of individualised learning, metacognition, knowing my style of learning, and did all of this in an engaging way. She was my physics teacher, but applying the methods she taught me across subjects, I began succeeding across the board, and even made it to the University of Cambridge (which was a dream I never thought possible to achieve). My goal in life, is now quite simply, to be able to teach these methods to my students and enable them to have the successes I had, despite life hurdles and challenges. I have an 100% success rate regarding increase in grades and successful university applications for my students. Allow me to become your tutor, and we will work together to maximise your success!

About the lesson

I am a driven individual who has prioritised personal development and educational success above hurdles and challenges, and use this drive to motivate and inspire my students. Having studied Psychology and Education at the University of Cambridge, I have a deep understanding of the need to adapt content and approach to each individual student, capitalising on their strengths and nourishing areas in which they can succeed, allowing them to develop a learning style that can be adopted across academic disciplines. Successful teaching does not equate to knowledge retention, if this cannot be applied elsewhere; the value of metacognition cannot be understated, and this is something I believe in instilling alongside delivery of academic content. I allow each individual student identify their learning style alongside their preferences of both my content delivery and their revision method, and adapt my sessions to capitalise on their strengths. The value of this method, is that not only do I achieve prolonged academic success in my subject, but students can apply learning techniques I have taught, across academic disciplines and life ventures, which allow my tuition to resonate into successes outside of the subject I teach.
