About Ashlyn
I’m confident in my ability to teach reading because I’ve seen firsthand how effective and personalized instruction can make a difference. I’ve helped students who started without knowing their letters grow into early readers, and I once worked with a child who went from reading just 3 words per minute to 31 words per minute in a short time. I focus on building strong foundational skills through phonics, sight word recognition, and consistent practice, always tailoring lessons to each student’s pace and learning style. When tutoring in English, I start by getting a clear understanding of the student’s current abilities in grammar, spelling, and reading. I use informal assessments like reading passages aloud, short writing samples, or spelling checks to see where they’re comfortable and where they might need extra support. From there, I create individualized lesson plans that target their specific needs—whether it’s building vocabulary, strengthening sentence structure, or improving reading comprehension. I include a mix of reading materials that match their interests and skill level, interactive grammar activities, and spelling strategies that suit their learning style. I adjust my approach as they grow, making sure each lesson helps them gain confidence and real progress.
