About Dov
I have been studying Japanese for 9 years both independently and under guided instruction when at university. During my period of independent study, I made many missteps and, whenever I found myself struggling to understand certain aspects of the language, it was not always easy to find an explanation. As a result, I am now able to identify and effectively explain elements of Japanese that tend to confuse English speakers. I would like to use my experience to lend a helping hand to those who wish for more structure and guidance in their study of Japanese

My teaching approach is based on the fundamental perspective that the study of foreign languages is simultaneously an academic pursuit and a practical skill with immediate real-life applications. In short, although I do emphasise traditional grammar/vocabulary study, I also place much value on active speaking and listening practice, and in the course of an average one-hour-long session, I like to dedicate at least fifteen minutes to developing practical speaking and listening skills so that students may begin to make use of their knowledge as soon as possible.
I aim to cater to students of all knowledge levels, and will plan lessons according to each individual student's degree of experience and specific goals.
