About Talyn
I’m a dedicated pianist and educator with a Bachelor of Music degree from Sonoma State University, where I was honored as a Distinguished Graduate in Classical Piano. My concentrations in Classical Piano Performance and Jazz Studies give me a well-rounded and versatile approach to teaching. With 17 years of experience, I’ve worked with students of all ages and skill levels—from young beginners to advanced musicians. I’m especially passionate about music theory, harmony, and ear training, and I love helping students deepen their understanding of how music works. Whether I’m guiding someone through complex harmonic progressions, sharpening their aural skills, or demystifying chord structures, I tailor each lesson to fit their unique needs and goals. My teaching philosophy centers on building strong musical foundations, fostering creativity, and helping students develop confidence in their musicianship. I believe that a solid grasp of theory, combined with great rhythm and technique, enhances every aspect of playing, improvising, and composing. I make learning piano and music theory fun. I am very thorough in my explanations and have a lot of performance experience. I studied jazz in college and can explain whatever you need to know about music theory. My passion is tying in music theory with learning piano as a way to better understand how music works and so you can think about and deconstruct your piece of music. Knowing music theory also helps with memorizing whatever piece you’re working on.
