About Zach

Zach Sheets is an artist, producer, audio engineer, sound designer, and DJ from Pennsylvania. From an early age, Zach knew music was his passion and set his sights on chasing down his dream. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the military as a stepping stone to an education in music. After completing 4 years of Active Duty in the United States Marine Corps, Zach relocated to Los Angeles to attend The Musicians Institute and Icon Collective. At Musicians, Zach completed the Independent Artist Program, Audio Engineering Program, Music Business Program, and earned his Associate of Science Degree in Studio Recording.

Since completing his education, Zach has released music on numerous indie music labels, both in the United States and abroad, and released his music independently. He’s performed at some of the biggest clubs in L.A. including The Belasco, Catch One, and The W Hotel, and at venues in Houston, Las Vegas, and Mexico. As an engineer, he’s recorded, mixed, and mastered up-and-coming artists across various genres. In recent years, Zach’s immense passion and drive for music have flourished into a desire to share his knowledge with fellow music creators and audiophiles. Zach looks forward to helping YOU manifest your goals in music.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

My passion for music initially started to peak when I was about 13 years old. This is around the time that I began to appreciate music on a deeper level. I dabbled around playing drums a bit but as I got older the Software side of Producing music was what really hooked me to the whole thing.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

For me personally, I love Dubstep. It is not the genre that's for everyone; however I have become addicted to sound design and the idea of always pushing the limits of what we can do with sound. This interest really led me to be able to create just about any genre due to its complexity.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I think going back to one of the basics is Compression. Believe it or not, I think that this is one of the most difficult topics to fully understand. Through my years of study, I have learned many ways to explain and show compression that has made it somewhat easier for people to understand.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I personally think Keys/Piano. It requires an abundance of knowledge of music theory as well as the ability to use both hands to play separate parts.
  • What are your keys to success?

CONSISTENCY. Nothing happens overnight and it can truly take years to even get good at music production. However, if you stick with it anything is possible.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Skrillex, Rick Ruben, Ken Lewis. These 3 may be very random when compared to each other but for me I would love to meet them based on the amount of work they have done across all genres.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I initially went into schooling only wanting to learn how to make Electronic Music. It wasn't until I started that I realized how immense the world of music and audio was. From that moment I knew it was important to learn as much as I possibly could about it all and not just keep myself focused on only Electronic Music. That for me was the greatest decision I could have made because it allowed me to absorb so much more than what I had hoped for.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

For me, I like to explain things in multiple different ways. I believe each person learns differently and when it comes to music there may be 5 ways to do the same thing. There is no right or wrong, only different options to get the same outcome. I make sure to explain all topics from as many angles as possible.
