About Tyler
I'm an engineering graduate from Missouri's top engineering school. I'm an open person, and I want you to feel comfortable asking questions without feeling silly or nervous! Together we will tackle subjects that can feel overwhelming. I love to help students uncover their understanding through inquiry- and discovery-based strategies. I specialize in maths, sciences, and dad jokes.

The method I chose to teach elementary through high school math and physics problems is based in a stack of practice problems. The lesson will be in two styles each focusing on the different aspect of learning, comprehension and speed, however all using the same problem set.
The first is section is based in comprehension. I will start with a short explanation of a concept, followed by practice problems. We pull problem off of the top of the stack of problems We will work together on one problem at a time. I will ask the studnet to try their hand at it, and then we will see if they will need help finding the answer. If they can solve it on their own, that problem goes on the bottom of the stack. If they needed a lot of help then once it has been explained, that problem will get put in the stack close to the top. This will happen until solving that type of problem feels normal.
That was the main body of the lesson, which I consider mental strength training. The next part of the lesson is mental speed training.
10 minutes of the lesson will be over the same problem set we had been working on, however, this time we will pick up the pace. I will give you 10-20 problems, and you will complete them as fast as you can, while I time you, and repeat. At this point, we have worked these problems enough that you won't get them wrong, but instead, it will be a matter of how fast you can compete with your previous time.
By combining both of these styles we can reach a high level of confidence in whatever we cover, and is great test-taking practice. I like give my student 5 minute breaks to just hang out every 25 minutes to give their head a rest. Its amazing what the brain can do on its own in those
5 minutes of recovery and reforming, and it also happens to allow for funny jokes, and sharing a nice conversation.
