About Lauren

My life revolves around my passions for writing and literacy. In 2024 I graduated summa cum laude from Lewis and Clark College with an honors Bachelor's degree in English and a concentration in creative writing. Throughout my time in college, I worked as a tutor in the Writing Center where I grew to love helping students craft essays and hone their writing skills. There I was able to build upon my years of experience as a freelance reading and writing tutor for K-12 students and gain expertise working with students of all ages. After graduating, I began working as a K-5 after-school teacher, where I've helped to develop and implement new literacy curriculums. Helping students learn how to read, write, and think creatively is the very best part of my day. Whatever your level of comfort is, I'm here to help you grow into the confident test-taker, reader, or writer that you were always meant to be!

About the lesson

I have lots of experience working with students with diverse learning styles and I am committed to collaborating with each of my students to figure out what works best for them!

Writing tutoring/essay help for high school and college students:
- I will typically start with a read-through of the writing being submitted, or a collaborative brainstorm session that results in an outline to begin writing.
- I will go through the written piece with the student, highlighting grammar and the strengths and weaknesses of the writing. Afterwards, we will come up with a plan to edit the paper or write another draft.

Reading and writing for elementary/middle school students:
- I will review the student’s homework to identify specific concepts and skills that are proving challenging
- I will prepare exercises tailored to material covered in class for the student to complete on their own or together with me in session.
- In each session, we will go through homework together as well as learning some literacy-strengthening tips and techniques.

SAT, ACT, AP test prep:
- I will go through exam prep material using the student's preferred prep book or I will provide one for the student to use.
- We will focus on challenging areas and time-saving techniques.
- I will proctor mock exams for the student and then review areas that need improvement.
