About Abigail

Hello! I’m Abigail, and teaching is something I genuinely love. One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is seeing a student go from finding something difficult to suddenly understanding it and feeling proud of their progress. Watching students achieve their goals and grow in confidence is what motivates me most.

I believe tutoring is not just about improving grades, but about building a student’s curiosity and helping them feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas. I aim to create a supportive and positive learning environment where students feel encouraged, capable, and excited to learn. Over time, I enjoy building strong relationships with my students so that lessons feel engaging rather than intimidating.

Outside of tutoring, I have a wide range of interests which I often bring into lessons to keep learning lively and relatable. I love music, sports, poetry, and I am an avid film enthusiast. I believe these interests help keep lessons creative and enjoyable, while also encouraging students to think more broadly and develop a genuine love of learning.

Above all, I am dedicated to helping each student grow academically while also developing the confidence and intellectual curiosity that will support them long after our lessons!

About the lesson

My tutoring approach focuses on adapting to each student’s individual learning style rather than following one fixed method. I begin by assessing how a child learns best and adjust my teaching accordingly. I believe students learn most effectively through active practice, so lessons focus on working through examples together and reinforcing key skills rather than just explaining concepts.

I also believe that very long lessons are rarely productive. Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, depending on the student’s concentration and pace of learning, and I structure lessons to keep them focused, engaging, and efficient.

Academically, I have a strong background from GCSEs and A Levels through to an Ivy League degree from Dartmouth College, where I studied English, History, and Creative Writing and graduated magna cum laude. I have over five years of tutoring experience working primarily with students aged 5–13.

I specialise in English, Maths, and entrance exam preparation for ages 5–13. I also work with students aged 17+ on UK and US university preparation, including applications and personal statements.

My aim is to deliver structured, supportive lessons that build both academic ability and confidence in each student.
