About Jennie
Since graduating from Davidson College in 2019, I have worked for the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, conducting laboratory research to support ongoing clinical trials. As I begin the process of preparing for the MCAT and applying to medical school, I am excited about the opportunity to work with young students and share my passion for these disciplines.
Growing up, I always asked my older sister to be my "pretend student" and to quiz me with flashcards before a test. I explained concepts to her as if I were the teacher, which, in turn, helped me better understand the topics too. This technique has continued to help me throughout high school and college. And, it is also what I used to tutor my peers in the Library Learning Center in high school and college.
My favorite part about working through challenges and solving hard problems with others is the shared sense of accomplishment upon finding the solution. Having tutored my fellow classmates and other students since I was in high school, I am very confident in my ability to help others learn. I use creative and engaging techniques to make difficult topics accessible and interesting for all students.

I am a very visual learner and teacher. My favorite teaching tool is a small, portable whiteboard or my iPad because I can easily draw diagrams/pictures to explain concepts. After breaking down and working through a concept together, I like to ask the student to explain it back to me in their own words to solidify the new information. Throughout the lesson, I also create a "cheat sheet," consisting of helpful diagrams, pneumonics, etc. as well as a list of topics to review further. This cheat sheet serves as a helpful reference for each student as they tackle future homework and prepare for exams. I teach academic english, chemistry, and biology to students in middle school and high school.
