About Nathan
As a piano teacher with a musical family background, I bring a diverse background in music education and performance to my teaching. I am a graduate of Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music '18, where I studied under the esteemed Alan Chow. My journey with the piano began at the age of 4, and since then, I have continued to hone my craft, including attending the prestigious Aspen School of Music, where I had the privilege of studying with Anton Nel. My goal is to help each student unlock their full potential, whether they are just beginning their musical journey or are advanced players looking to refine their skills.

As a piano teacher with over 7 years of teaching experience, my approach is centered on providing a personalized and comprehensive musical education that caters to the individual needs of each student. My teaching method combines the essential elements of music theory with practical repertoire, ensuring that students not only learn how to play the piano but also understand the music they are performing.
For elementary students, I use the Hal Leonard method, which introduces foundational skills in an engaging and accessible way. For intermediate to advanced students, I utilize the RCM curriculum, which offers a structured yet flexible path for mastering more complex pieces and techniques.
A typical lesson with me begins with a warm-up to reinforce technique, followed by focused work on music theory to build a solid understanding of the language of music. We then move on to repertoire, where students apply what they’ve learned in theory to their playing, working on pieces that are carefully chosen to match their level and interests. I also incorporate ear training, sight-reading, and improvisation exercises to round out their musical skills.
After every lesson, you can expect an assignment sheet that details out your warmup, review pieces, and new pieces for the week.
