I am an approachable and enthustiastic tutor with expertise in the realm of essay structures and coherency. Often times, what students struggle with is not what they want to say but how they can achieve saying it. For example, a student may write an excellent essay on the themes of power and deception in Shakespeare's Macbeth. However, the structuring of their essay may lack coherency and bring the overall grade down. The difference between an A and a B (or a H1 and H2) is full coherency. The B grade essay may be very well written but if it's not fully coherent it is never going to reach the A.
I will teach my students how to answer any essay question using a fixed structural formula with illustrative examples to guide them. Every essay is made up of a sum of parts; the introduction, the body and the conclusion. Every essay's structure will do the same thing no matter the question. It is all about sticking to the question asked and leading it back there at every point. As much as we love talking about Plath or Bishop or Yeats, the examiner just wants to see us answer the question asked.
