About Ethan

I am originally from Nottingham in the UK and recently graduated from the University of Bath in 2025 with First-Class Honours in Economics. My four-year degree included a year-long work placement in the City of London at the Bank of England, where I gained valuable real-world experience in economics and finance. Following my graduation, I decided to take on a new challenge and have recently relocated to Barcelona, where I am studying a Master’s degree in Economics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which is consistently ranked as the number one institution in Spain. I am a friendly and easy-going individual, but what I value most is my ability to understand others’ perspectives. In my experience, one of the biggest issues teachers and tutors face is forgetting that students may not have the same background knowledge they do. This often leads to key concepts being brushed over and students failing to see why a topic matters in the first place. Throughout my own education, I constantly questioned and sought deeper understanding so much so that it became a running joke in my maths class that whenever the teacher asked if we all understood, I would say “no” and ask her to explain it again, step by step! I believe it is difficult to learn anything without knowing why it’s important, and I bring that same philosophy into my tutoring. Across the various roles I have worked in, I have always relished any opportunity to teach others. I find that my step-by-step approach, ensuring students understand both why they are doing something and how to do it, is one of the most effective ways to build real understanding and lasting confidence.

My Approach to Tutoring My lessons are fully tailored to each student’s needs and learning style. I focus on understanding not just how something works, but why it works, because once you understand the reasoning behind a concept it becomes far easier to remember and to enjoy. I believe that enjoyment is key to success; if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you won’t be motivated to study. By making lessons engaging, interactive, and relevant, I aim to help students build both knowledge and genuine interest in the subject. Lesson Structure Lessons are available online for either 30 minutes or 1 hour. Shorter sessions are ideal for focused topic reviews or exam practice, while longer sessions allow for deeper exploration of concepts and problem areas. Qualifications and Experience I hold a First-Class Honours degree in Economics from a top 10 UK university and achieved three A* grades at A-level in Economics, History, and Mathematics. While I don’t have formal tutoring experience, I have extensive experience working with children and helping friends and peers improve their understanding of challenging topics over the years. Who My Lessons Are For I teach Economics and Mathematics at GCSE and A-level (or equivalent), supporting students aged 14–18 who want to improve their grades, build confidence, or prepare for exams. Lessons are also suitable for first-year university students looking for support in introductory Economics.
