About Ryan

I'm a former Embalmer and Funeral Director (13 years in the Bay Area for about 60 hours a week!), and worked in the Pathology Laboratory at a major medical hospital chain until I became very allergic to the caustic chemicals we worked with on a daily basis. Since then, and I've been working in finance and am currently at Goldman Sachs @ Co..

However, I have been a metalhead since I was 8 years old! So that gives me 35 years of guitar experience. From touring and recording to playing clubs on tour starving in a tiny van and opening for big acts at festivals, I've opened for Cheap Trick and ZZ Top, to name a few.

When I was 3 years old I started with the piano, by 6 I had moved on to the trumpet (Bb Coronet, specifically), at 7 I moved to the Alto Sax. But at 8 years old, I found the love of my professional and creative life: the guitar! I was obsessed with it and pretty much still am! So that is one more thing I'll bring to our lessons: the least annoying yet most enthusiastic teacher you'll ever have!

I've been lucky to have worked with great musicians and get to talk about and play music, instruments, different amps, accessories, like guitar pedals...etc...things like what sucks, and what rules all with people who know what they're talking about...ya know, important stuff!

1st lesson is on me, tips are always appreciated and I'll take 50% referrals (that means your friend too! 100% - %50 = 2 lessons for $20!) any and 25% off any discounts or positive feedback given!

Any questions, just ask!

Hope to hear from you soon,

Ryan Hallerud

Every student walks away knowing how to play something from my 1st lesson. Even if it's your first lesson, or you've been playing for 10 years, you'll walk away with new knowledge.
My method is to find the music YOU want to play, and help you play it! We'll break it down piece by piece and identify strengths and weaknesses. Knowing what to focus on is half the battle. The other half is practice. I once heard, "Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect." And I believe it. Don't repeat a bad habit or mistake just because it's easy...it's the hard part that makes guitarists great. Otherwise, everyone would do it...that's why they make Guitar Hero, because it takes talent and a lot of practice and most people can't do it. But if you try and practice like you mean it, you will reach your goal! I'll help you find what areas to work on, give you exercises to help you and chart your progress along the way.

I also love acoustic guitar and have been playing classical piano since age 3. So I can’t just help you with your ear, I can teach you all that boring music theory stuff that unlocks what I call the “cosmic radio.”

But when you play YOUR music, practice is fun and you get to imagine the looks on everyone's faces when you show them what you can do!

And tips are very much appreciated and the first hour is always free! In fact, if you prove you have referred a friend I'll take 50% off that lesson!
