About Sophie

My name is Sophie and I am currently 24 years old. In school I never knew what I wanted to do so I just chose the subjects by how much I liked them orones I wanted to be good at so people thoughtI was clever. I studied Maths, English Literature and Drama as my A levels and then went on to study Maths at University. Due to family troubles and corona I left university and didn’t obtain my full degree. I now feel happy about this result as it has meant I have been able to experience more of what it means to be my age. From struggling in hospitality jobs to working abroad I feel like I’ve had a taste of both sides of life. When I was growing up university was the only option I was given so it was very important that I worked for it. Having left I now know it is not the most important thing for a young adult to be doing. However, the key part of my story is that I had the choice. My aim of my Tuturoing is to give every student the choice in their own future. Getting good grades is not the only thing in life but it does allow you much more opportunities and much more control in deciding your own future. My aim is to create a style of learning that doesn’t feel stressful or like a chore but in itself is validating to the needs of the student and encouraging to them for their future.

About the lesson

I believe that everyone is capable of an achieving a good grade in maths but unfortunately the way it is taught does not make sense to everybody. I was one of those students and I had to reteach myself the syllabus while I was at school, using countless YouTube videos or online cheat notes to try and find somewhere that would explain it in a way I could understand. I want to make it easier for students to access someone who can explain it how they need it and that is what I want to do in my tutoring.
