About Vid
I have 18 years of musical experience playing the piano and performing all around Europe.
Having studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria, under prof. Eike Straub and graduated with the highest grade in Music - Piano at Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet, Slovenia, under prof. Sasa Gerzelj Donaldson, I have a proper education in piano performance, musical theory and music history.
I have played a variety of classical (and some modern/jazz) pieces from Bach, Scarlatti, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin (my favourite), Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Bartok among the other composers whose names I currently cannot recollect...
Hence, I believe that I can give proper guidance on how to "feel" the pieces from various musical eras, improve your finger technique and teach you how to practice appropriately.
I performed with symphonic orchestras in England, Austria and Slovenia and competed all around Europe, from Scotland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia to Slovakia where I have received numerous awards.
I also won the Solfeggio Slovenian National competition achieving a 100% mark and have sung at some concerts in the past few years (accompanying myself with piano).
I have also recorded a few piano pieces in Ljubljana, Slovenia in the studio for National Radio.

My tutoring tries to mimic the way how my professors have been teaching me throughout the past 18 years. Musicality and a feel for the music are what separates a good pianist from a bad one, but being able to express yourself properly also necessitates good technique. Hence, I try to provide you with the whole set of skills needed to take your piano playing to a new level, allowing you to feel emotions you've never felt before.
I have been teaching piano for 3 years. So far, all my students have obtained a "Distinction" for various ABRSM exams.
I am very patient, friendly and outgoing. I usually get along with children very well!
With the experience of having received lessons from two excellent, renowned pianists (and great people) prof. Sasa Gerzelj Donaldson and prof. Eike Straub, and having attended a few masterclasses, I can:
- show you how to "properly" interpret pieces from different musical eras
- show you the proper finger technique and correct ways to practice for you to become a better pianist
- we'll work on phrasing and musicality, which is key because music is something to be felt. Playing the piano is more than just moving your fingers up and down!
- give you basic exercises if you are a total beginner; to work on rhythm, properly introduce you to the piano and teach you some musical theory
- help you play pieces you're already playing better
- suggest a new interesting piece, in the case you want to widen your musical horizons/need to learn something for an exam
- give you some tips on how to prepare for the performances as I've had quite a number of those since I first started playing the piano at the age of 5.
- 100% flexible to the individual's needs and desires!
Even if you've never played the piano, I hope I can put you onto the path to becoming a world-class pianist (the secret to becoming very good is, I have to tell you, unfortunately, the ever so boring practice).
On the other side, it means everyone can make it, you just have to believe in yourself enough!
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Having been both a physics course-mate and flatmate of his, I have witnessed first-hand his contagious positive energy, attentiveness, generosity, and, most importantly, his consistently kind and supportive demeanor towards others. He has always helped fellow course-mates when he could, and always with a smile. I wholeheartedly recommend him as the best of tutors (and also an invaluable friend).
Goes into good depth! Good teacher
I have had the privilege of knowing Vid for four years during our undergraduate studies, and I can attest to his exceptional ability to explain complicated topics and his unwavering dedication to helping others succeed academically.
During our time at Imperial College, Vid stood out as not only a top-notch student but also as a natural mentor and teacher. Whenever any of us struggled with a challenging concept or a difficult assignment, Vid was always the go-to person for guidance. His knack for breaking down complex subjects into manageable parts and conveying them in a clear and understandable manner was truly remarkable. Whether it was late-night study sessions, group projects, or one-on-one tutoring, Vid's teaching skills shone brightly.
What sets Vid apart is not just his deep knowledge of the subjects he teaches but also his ability to connect with his students on a personal level. He is patient, approachable, and genuinely invested in the success of his peers. Vid has a unique talent for tailoring his teaching methods to suit each student's individual learning style, ensuring that everyone he mentors can grasp the material effectively.
Vid is an amazing teacher! He helped my daughter with IB Physics SL, getting her from grade 5/7 to a 7/7 after working with him throughout her second year of IB Diploma Programme. He is very understandable, flexible, patient and knows how to deliver the content. Would definitely recommend!
Vid is an extremely approachable and talented teacher that will make your learning experience as smooth as possible. He is demanding and strict when necessary, and gentle and kind when it is time to be so. You will not regret hiring Vid. The price is worth it!
He's very patient and tries his very best to make me truly understand the concepts, and not only teach me how to solve the problems, when I'm struggling with something. You can tell he's very much into physics. Would highly recommend, very approachable!
