About Alice

I am 25, and work in the Cancer Support team for the Sussex NHS trust. Since I work for the NHS I have a fully clear CRB and DBS check.

I really enjoy teaching science to others, and believe a good understanding of at least GCSE level science is fundamental to a students future ability to navigate the adult world.

I am very keen on safeguarding and I have allowed my students/their parents to record my lessons for review in the past (to help revision but I am happy for this to be done for peace of mind also), as well as always keeping contact through whatsapp group chats only where all correspondence can be read by the parent.

About the lesson

My lessons are between an hour to 2 hours long, and I use Microsoft Teams/ Google classroom if online.
If over an hour long I give students a short break in the middle that is not included in lesson time to help keep focus.

I have a BSc with Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences, and took A level Chemistry, Biology, and English Literature, and AS level Physics.

I have 6 years worth of GCSE AQA science tutoring experience, and have tutored 5 students and my 2 younger siblings.

I focus on ensuring students have the necessary approach and deeper level understanding to be able to answer any question thrown at them.

In the 1st lesson, I take notes to get a clear view of my pupils current level, their weaknesses, and their goals.

I also use "explain" questions from past papers and work through the questions with the student to gauge their speed at picking up new information and using multiple facts to work out overall answers to questions.

I then tailor my lessons specifically to the student, based on how long they have till their exams.

Upon request I can also provide additional scientific/maths notes for my students based on what they need extra time to look over and complete marking of practice tests.

When marking tests, I take the time to properly explain how to answer blanks or incorrect answers, giving much more detail than a mark scheme.

I use google classroom to track progression, and this also makes it very easy for pupils and parents to see homework, grades, notes, and to ask questions about specific tasks.
