About Abigail

Hi, I'm Abi!

I'm a Physics graduate from the University of Birmingham, now studying Advanced Mechanical Engineering at a Master's level while tutoring GCSE and A-level Maths online.

I have had a passion for Maths since primary school and enjoy the problem-solving aspect of the subject. I have achieved high grades in maths throughout school, achieving a 9 at GCSE (along with a 6 in Further Maths at GCSE level) and an A at A-level.

Maths is often labelled as the hardest subject; however, I believe that with the right guidance and support, students can really thrive within this subject. The problem-solving skills, which Maths helps to develop, opens many doors and opportunities for students, making it essential that they have a knowledgeable and patient teacher to enable them to excel.

About the lesson

Maths began to click for me when I began to understand the reasoning behind certain mathematical methods rather than memorising processes without understanding the foundations behind them. I am eager to help other students develop their confidence within mathematics and teach them the skills required to use logical processes to tackle a problem.

I will advise my students to attempt a set of problems before our tutoring session, either provided by their teacher or me. The student will then be able to inform me of any tricky concepts they have come across or problems they were unable to solve so we can break these down in more detail during the session. This will ensure that tutoring sessions are used effectively, as any weaker areas can be identified before the session.

My experience with Further Maths at GCSE level will allow me to give tailored support to any students taking this extra qualification, requiring them to take on challenging concepts, such as matrices, at an earlier level than most.

I am passionate about making maths as interesting and engaging for students as possible. This requires adapting to each student's unique learning style and ensuring that lessons are both fun and informative.

I hadn’t studied any maths since finishing my GCSEs and was lacking in confidence in my ability. Abi went through every technique I needed and was incredibly patient when explaining where I had gone wrong. I ended up surpassing the score I required on the tests and owe it to Abi’s tutoring. I would recommend Abi to anybody in need of maths support at either GSCE or A-Level.
