About Francesca
Hi, I'm Francesca! I'm a second-year International Relations student at LSE, and I've tutored GCSE and A-level English Literature students for several years. I've always loved reading and writing — it's a big part of why I enjoy this subject so much, and I try to bring that enthusiasm into lessons rather than making it feel like a slog. I'm patient and approachable, and I focus on helping students find their own voice in their writing, not just teaching them to write what they think examiners want to hear.

My Approach to Tutoring
I teach GCSE and A-level English with a focus on developing close analytical reading and confident essay writing, rather than just covering content. Lessons typically start with unpicking key themes, characters, and context for whatever text is being studied, then move into practising how to build a strong analytical argument — focusing on structure (thesis, evidence, analysis of language/structure/form, and how to weave in context) rather than just summarising the plot. I use past exam questions and mark schemes regularly so students understand exactly what examiners are rewarding, and I give detailed feedback on practice essays to help students see where marks are being lost or gained.
Lesson Length
Lessons typically run 60 minutes, though I'm happy to flex to 45 or 90 minutes depending on what a student wants to cover — essay planning and full timed essays sometimes benefit from a longer session.
My Qualifications & Experience
I achieved A*A*A at A-level and am currently studying International Relations at LSE. I've tutored GCSE and A-level English Literature students over an extended period, helping them improve both their essay technique and their overall grades. I'm also an avid reader myself — recent reads include The Bluest Eye, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Great Gatsby — which helps me bring genuine enthusiasm for texts into lessons rather than treating them purely as exam material.
Who My Lessons Are For
GCSE and A-level English Literature students — whether you're building foundational essay-writing skills or refining technique to push into the top grade bands.
