About Ema
Hello, my name is Ema! I am a former student of Chemistry, so I remember well what it felt like to be in your shoes. Luckily, my particular strength in life has always been (and still is) the mastery of exams - and I would love to be able to share this skill with you.
Knowledge of syllabus:
-I am closely familiar with the current AQA Chemistry syllabus for GCSE, as I have studied/revised it extensively in the recent months
My Chemistry grades/qualifications:
- For my own Chemistry grades, I received A* for GCSE (i.e. the highest grade), and A for A level
Further education:
- BSc Psychology at the University of Exeter (I received a 1st, i.e. the highest grade). This course was specifically rigorous on scientific research methods, and has prepared me well for a teaching career
- MSc Global Sustainability Solutions at the University of Exeter (I received a Distinction, i.e. the highest grade). This course included relevant modules on climate science
Why I want to teach Chemistry:
- Chemistry was among my strongest subject in school, which I took to A level
- This is also a subject which I did not fully appreciate back then, it is only as an adult that I recognised that most of my hobbies are rooted in Chemistry. Therefore, I genuinely am excited to speak about Chemistry not just as a set of grades to push through, but also as a positive and interesting subject that can truly awaken curiosity about the world itself.
About the lesson

NCEA Level 1

All languages in which the lesson is available :

Subject/level: GCSE Chemistry
Typical length: 1hr, but we can discuss what works best for you.
Approach:
My approach to teaching is designed to do more than just repeat what you learned in school. I aim to clarify areas of confusion to deepen your understanding, and help you retain the information you have learnt by helping you develop effective learning tools.
A typical lesson would start with a quick quiz from the previous lessons to help you consolidate what you have learned. After we delve into a new topic, we would follow with a few helpful exercises designed to check and deepen your understanding. Towards the end, we would attempt a couple of practice questions, and discuss tips how to remember this information. This would, of course, vary depending on your particular needs, and whether we are learning a new topic, or revising.
Experience:
On-and-off tutoring experience for 15 years, including:
School: 1:1 tutoring of lower-year students
University: Tutoring first-year students in group settings on the more difficult, science-heavy topics
Office: I trained junior team members on 1:1 as well as group basis to teach them rather detailed elements of a specialised role
Currently: Yoga teacher - a role that relies heavily on efficiency of explanations to ensure that the choreography of the class can move smoothly
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I have been receiving weekly chemistry tuition from Ema for some time now and can honestly say I have improved my understanding massively thanks to her caring and patient approach. Ema is knowledgeable about her subject and regularly goes over the course material herself to find new ways of making the subject matter accessible.
I have also taken a couple of 1-to-1 yoga lessons with Ema and I may have caught the bug already!I practiced with Ema many times, she is very passionate about health and mobility, she teaches what she practices is a safe way. She will challenge you to explore your edge to expand your comfort zone and help you progress. Ema is very caring and compassionate, she she will support you to start yoga from where you are, it could be a stiff body, sore shoulder or anxious mind. I recommend Ema's classes if you are a beginner or you practiced yoga for a while, she will meet you where you are.

Details
Being relatively new to tutoring as a full-time career, I offer my tutoring services for a lower price of £15/hr until 31 Dec 2026. However, I do have sufficient expertise in teaching, and I know the Chemistry GCSE content very well - so you would be in safe hands!
