About Karen

I am a recent graduate of a Bachelor of Education, and have successfully gained my teaching certificate for grades 7 - 12 in French and Social Sciences.

I have taught just over 60 classes of English, French, and Spanish. To a diverse group of learners in elementary and secondary schools.

I have now been on SuperProf for a year, which has allowed me to hone my tutoring skills by designing specific lessons for learners aged 10 - 36, with diverse goals and learning styles!

I'm passionate about travelling and getting to know other cultures!

About the lesson

As an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), I employ 21st Century teaching strategies. Out with the textbook, in with active conversation and creative outlets! My varied techniques will keep the learning fresh and engaging: from direct instruction and drilling of grammar and vocabulary, to less formal conversations to hone in on pronunciation! There will be games, music, puzzles, at-home challenges and many more!

A typical lesson plan will be:
- fully individualized
- structured around learners' goals, needs, learning styles, and interests
- dynamic
- Include active participation, real-world applications, opportunities for creativity and critical thinking, and of course PLAY!

Why me?
- will go beyond textbook examples to real-world use of language
- have lived in the places where specific language is used: Spanish (Havana, Cuba); English (Toronto, ON); French (Montréal)
- highly competent in many technological tools to make virtual learning fun and engaging
