About Geraldine
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF TEACHING HISTORY I have experience in both Secondary and Further Education settings in which I was the sole lecturer responsible for the delivery and internal marking for ISA coursework relating to Dual Award Science. In addition, I taught level 3 science programmes, i.e. Access in Medical Science, whereby I was the Subject Specific leader for Physics and Biology and adviser to the Access Curriculum leader for both Human Biology and Physics components of the course. Within the secondary sectors (including Southport College), I have besides teaching GCSE science also delivered BTEC Applied Science / Forensics Programmes (both diploma and Extended Certificate). Specifically for the BTEC Applied Science Programme I also launched BTEC Intervention groups for low achievers and I am happy all students involved succeeded to gain a pass or merit award. The intervention group was instrumental in their success. Delivering BTEC in St George of England Secondary school and in Southport College also required assignment writing, internal marking and moderation within the department. I hope this to some extent exemplifies my flexibility within my subject area adeptness and consistency when marking / moderating and necessary skill in time management. Within both roles as teacher and FE Lecturer effective communication skills (both written and verbal) are imperative in both developing positive working relationships all in all areas of Education, with colleagues and students. This has always involved timely feedback and frequent communication. In particular, the FE there is great emphasis on consistent communication, e-mailing individual students and vice versa to provide a tailored approach to support each student's needs. As a college emphasis was also on IT skills and IT training, essential in providing tailored resources both multimedia and otherwise, record keeping and communication. Again the element of effective and consistent communication, adhering to tight deadlines and the ability to handle new IT software were all integral to my role as OCR Examiner for Biology in 2014 to ensure reliability and consistency. Presently I am employed with a private education company for the last 3 years offering one-to-one science tuition at GCSE level catering for the differing specifications of the Triple and Combined Sciences along with Key stage 3 science. I find that we achieve an excellent amount of progress in a short space of time with my students. Whilst the office is closed due to Government regulations I already offer an online service via Top Marks for any students that wish to engage in distance learning. I have found the students very positive about the sessions. I discuss their needs via email and email to their parents and send resources for the lesson at least 1 day prior to the scheduled session. This leads to a completely tailored experience for the student and the most effective use of their time. Consolidation of the subject matter and written assessment is within the homework set on completion of the session.

I teach all GCSE specifications in science including Combined and Trilogy along with Key stage 3 science. I use a diverse range of methods and resources including PowerPoints, worksheets and past paper questions all of which are supplied before the session. One-to-one sessions are tailored so communication between student and teacher via email to target and make effective use of time is vitally important.
