About Eugene
I am a full-time Teacher of Chemistry at a top grammar school and Natural Sciences graduate from the University of Cambridge, teaching both GCSE and A-level. My main goal is always to teach for true understanding, and this is reflected in both the way I tailor sessions to you, and also in how some of my students have gone on to perform: one student went from a D to an A within a month. Do get in touch for either general GCSE / A-level prep, university (esp. Oxbridge) applications, or if you're looking to extend your knowledge further beyond what is offered in school (e.g. for Olympiads or Challenges etc.)

Please note: I reside in Japan as of August 2024 so my availability is limited to ~2pm UK time on Saturdays and Sundays only. I aim to ensure that you gain an intuitive understanding about your subject as well as being able to explain solutions concisely. Therefore the way I teach is very interactive, and you will find that each session involves a lot of back-and-forth between us to establish your current knowledge - this is the basis from which we will develop your thinking, and it allows me to tailor each session to how you learn. Throughout I will be constantly checking your understanding - after all, there would be no point continuing otherwise. I may present multiple ways of attacking the same problem, but I will eventually ask you to explain the concept in your own words - this is the most important skill to have and we can tweak your response to suit an exam question etc. It serves as proof that you truly grasp what's going on. I will challenge you to think in new ways and more efficiently, and you will inevitably improve. -- Practically speaking, I hold lessons online, using a graphics tablet to draw diagrams on screen. I prefer to hold sessions over Teams or using Discord's screen-sharing function. I may ask you to draw diagrams using a shared online whiteboard.

Eugene is a very thorough individual with a passion for the subject that he teaches. As a fellow tutor, I can endorse him having seen his rigorous yet patient approach to teaching. I feel that anybody will be able to grow with his as their tutor.
