About Cate
Hi, I’m Cate! I’m a Clemson University graduate with a degree in Chinese and International Business and a minor in Economics. I have studied Mandarin for several years, including immersive study and extensive time living in Taiwan. Most recently, I spent a year in Taiwan as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, where I taught English and participated in cross-cultural exchange. I also hold a TESOL Fundamentals certificate. As someone who learned Mandarin as a second language myself, I understand both the challenges and rewards of learning Chinese and enjoy helping other learners build their skills and confidence. I’m patient, encouraging, and happy to adapt to each student’s individual goals and learning style.

My lessons are personalized, engaging, and designed to make learning Mandarin feel approachable and practical. I studied Mandarin Chinese throughout college, earned my degree in Chinese and International Business, and have spent significant time living and studying in Taiwan. I especially enjoy helping beginner and intermediate learners build confidence in speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, and everyday conversation while also incorporating Chinese and Taiwanese culture into lessons.
I also offer English and ESL tutoring, drawing on my experience as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Taiwan and my TESOL training. Whether you’re learning Mandarin, strengthening your English, or looking for language support for your child, I tailor lessons to each student’s level, interests, and goals.
