About Joanne

About Me
I'm Joanne, a UK-qualified teacher with 26 years in education across the UK and internationally, specialising in Computer Science, Business Studies, and Economics at IGCSE and A Level — and Computing for primary-age children from 6 to 12.

Most recently Head of Computing at Wingate School in Tenerife — rated Outstanding in both 2023 and 2025 inspections — I now focus entirely on online tutoring, working with students across different time zones and learning environments.

I've taught across CIE and Edexcel curricula, consistently achieving excellent results. Whether that's breaking down complex CS theory, building confidence in Python, unpacking business strategy, sharpening exam technique in Economics — or introducing young learners to the exciting world of coding and computational thinking through Scratch, I adapt my approach to suit each individual student.

My students don't just pass — they understand. And that makes all the difference when it comes to exams.

For younger learners, my lessons are playful, creative, and confidence-building — designed to spark a genuine love of technology from an early age.

About My Lessons

With 26 years of teaching experience, I work with students across Computer Science, Business Studies, and Economics at IGCSE and A Level — and with younger learners aged 6–12 who are just beginning their coding journey.

Every lesson starts in the same place: with you. Before we dive into content, I take time to understand exactly where you are, what's not clicking, and what you need to feel confident. From there, I build a clear, personalised path forward — structured and purposeful, but never rigid.

For Computer Science students, that might mean working through Python programming, exploring AI and Machine Learning, or unpacking theoretical topics such as algorithms, data structures, Boolean logic, computer architecture, networks, or cybersecurity. For Business Studies and Economics students, we focus on building the analytical thinking and exam technique that turns knowledge into marks — whether that's evaluating business strategy, interpreting data, or mastering the art of the 20-mark essay.

For younger learners (ages 6–12), lessons are hands-on, creative, and fun — using tools like Scratch to build games, stories, and animations whilst developing real computational thinking skills. No prior experience needed; just curiosity.

I have a strong track record of results, including transforming a school department to achieve 100% A*–C grades over eight consecutive years. I bring that same commitment to every individual student I work with.
