About Nianda

I’m Ms Nianda Reid (LTCL, Instrumental Teaching), a piano teacher at BYMT (Beckenham) with years of experience guiding beginners of all ages. My lessons are friendly, structured, and fun — focused on building confidence, technique, and creativity from day one. I’m also the author of Acti Learning Music: Piano and Keyboard Book 1, which many of my students use alongside lessons. You can find extra tips and tutorials on my YouTube channel, Acti Learning Music. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to grow your skills, I’d love to support your musical journey.

My piano lessons are fun, structured, and tailored to each student. I believe that music should be enjoyable while also giving students the skills to grow in confidence and ability. Lessons usually include a balance of: • Practical playing — learning pieces step by step • Technique — posture, hand position, and finger strength • Creativity — simple improvisation and fun exercises to keep motivation high • Music reading — building confidence with notation from the very beginning I often use my own book, Acti Learning Music: Piano and Keyboard Book 1, which provides clear step-by-step lessons, activities, and backing tracks. Many families find this a great way to stay engaged between lessons. Whether you’re a beginner, a returning player, or preparing for grades, I adapt each lesson to suit your goals — from casual enjoyment to formal exam preparation.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I discovered the piano as a teen, and it quickly became my favourite instrument. I loved how it opened up a whole world of melody and harmony, and it has been my companion ever since.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I can listen to Stevie Wonder endlessly. His rhythm, harmonies, and joy in performing are always inspiring.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Helping a complete beginner progress to confidently playing their first full piece is one of the most rewarding journeys — it combines technique, reading, and creativity all in one.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The violin — because even the tiniest adjustment in intonation or bowing changes the sound completely.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Patience, consistency, enjoyment, and clear goals.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

•Nina Simone – for her power and honesty through music.
•Stevie Wonder – for his genius and infectious joy.
•Lang Lang – for his passion and ability to inspire new pianists.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

During my LTCL training, I struggled with a very challenging piece. My teacher reminded me that music isn’t just about perfect notes, but about telling a story. That moment completely changed how I approach teaching and performing.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I bring energy and encouragement into every lesson, use creative resources like my book and YouTube tutorials, and adapt my approach to each student — whether that means exam prep, pop songs they love, or just the joy of playing.
