About Rhei

Hi! My name is Rhei and I have been a professional tutor for 8 years now, though informally it has been much longer. I enjoy teaching - seeing students progress and become more confident in their maths skills gives me a sense of accomplishment.

I am currently doing a PhD in Maths and Stats with applications in fisheries, and I work with students regularly, both through my own institution or privately online.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed co-creatively with the students, based on their needs and goals. I provide learning materials in the form of presentation slides and short documents, which contain key theoretical knowledge, practical examples and practice problems.

In my live sessions I combine interactive problem-solving with clear explanations of core concepts. I use examples, visuals, humour, and collaborative activities to make learning engaging and to help students build confidence. I break down challenging topics into smaller chunks, and guide students towards efficient solution strategies.

I have been a professional tutor for eight years, and I have worked as a teaching assistant in HE for five. I can support students achieve better grades and feel more confident in their skill, whether at A-Level or university. I am also an experienced university admission mentor, having worked as an interview and personal statement coach for the past three years. Many of my students have secured an interview at a top UK university. I also specialise in TMUA/MAT/STEP prep.

Aside from the above, I have taught bespoke classes tailored to the interests of my students, usually outwith standard UK school curriculum (e.g. university-level disease and population modelling). I am also currently supporting students working on their own personal research projects (e.g. looking at RSA encryption and quantum computers). I am always keen to discuss a personalised study plan with new learners.

1-1 sessions are typically 1–2 hours long, e.g. a TMUA support session benefits from a 2h slot. I have also taught longer sessions, usually when in person to a classroom of students. Shorter sessions of 30min are beneficial for shorter discussions, e.g. agreeing a study plan or reviewing a few exercises together.

- MPhil Earth Sciences (University of Cambridge, 2020)
- Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health (West College Scotland, 2025)
