About Julia
Hello! My name is Julia, and I am a Secondary Education major with a focus in History at the University of New Mexico. I also work as a basketball coach, which has provided me with valuable experience in supporting and motivating students in various learning environments. I fully believe every student is capable of success, and I teach with patience, respect, and encouragement to help them reach their full potential. I specialize in tutoring History and English, focusing on reading comprehension, essay writing, historical thinking, and overall academic confidence. My lessons are structured, supportive, and easy to follow. I break down difficult ideas into clear steps, ask guiding questions, and help students develop strong study habits and independent thinking skills. What sets me apart is my calm, student-centered approach. I create a welcoming space where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and growing at their own pace. I adapt to each student’s strengths and needs, helping them build both skill and confidence. My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students who want to improve their performance in English or History, prepare for exams, or strengthen their writing and analytical skills. I take my work seriously, and I am committed to helping every student feel supported, capable, and proud of their progress.

My Approach as a Tutor:
I can help with History and English with a clear, supportive, and student-focused approach. I believe that real learning happens when students understand ideas deeply rather than just memorize facts, so I focus on helping them think, question, and communicate with confidence. I also make sure every student feels supported, respected, and safe to make mistakes as they grow.
My teaching style is based on:
- Breaking down difficult ideas into simple steps
- Using real examples, stories, and visuals
- Guiding students with questions instead of giving answers
- Encouraging self-reflection and clear communication
- Adjusting pacing and style for each individual learner
A Typical Lesson Plan
- Warm-Up Review: We check progress, goals, and questions from previous lessons.
- Core Learning: I teach the main topic through discussion, guided reading, examples, and structured explanations.
- Guided Practice: We work on exercises together, such as essay structure, document analysis, or historical thinking tasks.
- Independent Practice: Students try a similar activity on their own to build confidence and independence.
- Reflection and Wrap-Up: We end by reviewing what worked, what needs practice, and what comes next.
What Sets Me Apart
I am patient, flexible, and focused on building long-term academic skills. I work to improve reading comprehension, writing structure, vocabulary, historical thinking, and critical analysis. I also teach students how to ask stronger questions, organize their work, and communicate their ideas clearly.
I believe tutoring is about partnership and trust. Students learn best when they feel heard and understood, so I make space for creativity, curiosity, and individual growth in every session.
