My Experience:
Leadership - Model UN
regularly for 5 years - 2014 - 2019
Model UN is a highly respected international organisation which holds conferences that replicate the UN. In Dealing with complex foreign affairs, I have won ‘best delegate’ at every conference I have attended. This means I’m able to assert leadership as well as work cohesively in a group dynamic. Furthermore, I served as the Secretary General. I organised a conference for over 400 students in various committees, ensuring that the day was both smoothly executed and productive. I also delivered a speech about poverty, aiming to inspire the delegates in the opening ceremony.
Editor - Sixth Form Newspaper September 2017 - June 2019
As well as writing extensively researched essays on current affairs and topical youth issues (ranging from Russian foreign policy to a student guide to Brexit, to the experience of applying to Oxford), I oversaw the operation and distribution of our newspaper, making content and design inputs and budget decisions.
Researcher - Saatchi & Saatchi February 2016
I have work experience at the world famous advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi assisting the planning department. This taught me skills in tailoring content to an audience and being a detail-orientated producer. In a demanding office environment, I adjusted well and have received positive feedback (available).
Receptionist - Yoga Centre (One Yoga) March 2018 - December 2019
Having worked as the receptionist and the only available staff member, I took full responsibility over the studio. On top of organising bookings, classes and cleaning the site, I held personal responsibility for the security of the building as well as health and safety of the customers. In addition, my interpersonal skills developed by maintaining the calm atmosphere and friendly identity of the company.
Tutoring - English/Essay writing September 2017 - March 2019
I gave weekly sessions to a number of students. I found this job very rewarding as I had to plan tasks to suit their skills and needs. As these lessons were around a subject of deep interest, I enjoyed breaking down the skills I had acquired over the years and truly analysing how I gained them to then translate them into engaging lessons. I’m very proud of the progress the students I taught made - as well as an improvement in their confidence and enjoyment of the subject.
Sales Assistant / Customer Service - Health Centre/Food Store September 2017 - August 2018
During the long time relationship with this workplace I loved the connections I formed working with the team as well as our regular customers (across the two stores I worked at). The long shift hours I took on on top of my school work hours helped me develop a very resilient attitude towards work. I was responsible for arranging stock, giving nutritional advice and being in charge of the tills. Working with a nutritionist/health advisor means I'm particularly knowledgeable about food.
