About Matt
Hello! I'm Matt, and I am a 22-year-old who recently graduated from the University of Sheffield, where I studied history.
Ever since I first started doing history at school, I couldn't get enough of learning new things about the past - and the older it was, the better! The idea of being able to understand how ordinary people lived hundreds of years ago, to see how similar they are to us in many respects, and how their actions still influence us to this day, was always magical to me. This enthusiasm for history only grew over time, throughout school and university. But having now finished my degree, the next step is to pass on that passion to others.
Outside of history, I am a very friendly person, and I love being able to meet new people! I am a big cricket fan, I like to write stories, and I would love to go travelling in the future. I can't wait to meet you, and have a great time learning about history together!

While I may be biased, I think history is one of the best subjects you can learn! This is because, unlike more technical subjects like maths and science, the basis of history is in stories. With the right outlook, history can be such an enjoyable subject to study, and it is this atmosphere that I would hope to bring to my lessons. I won’t be bogging you down with endless dates and names, but delving deeper into the events of the past to find the juicier details and help gain an understanding of why important moments in history happened.
I will hope to help make difficult or confusing historical events and periods interesting and clear by explaining them for what they are – really good stories that will hopefully be a pleasure to learn about.
I have been passionate about history for many years, and I have recently graduated from university with a 2:1 degree in History. I am therefore very willing and able to use my knowledge to help you with your learning at all levels up to and including A-level.
I am a very friendly and relaxed person, and my tutoring environment will be a space where even the smallest problems can be worked through, without fear of judgement. I would love you to come away with a similar enthusiasm that I hope to bring, but if not, to at least enjoy the time learning about the best subject there is!
