Friendly and encouraging 11+, maths and languages tutor - English tutor with James

I work as a senior carer in a healthcare setting and am currently studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Senior Clinical Support. As part of this I am required to achieve a Level Two Functional Skills Maths qualification and James has been been my tutor since the Summer of last year. James is a very pleasant person who is clearly very knowledgeable in the field of maths and passionate about the subject. He is unendingly patient and able to explain and demonstrate the areas I am learning in a variety of ways so that I can fully understand what is being asked of me. James has been able to build up my confidence and belief in myself with his calm and reassuring manner. He is very flexible, given that I work shifts and am often called into work at short notice, so that I do not miss out on tutorials. He is also always available for extra help and advice in between sessions if needed. I am very grateful to James for all that he has taught me so far and would have no hesitation in recommending him as a tutor for others. I have in fact just recommended him to a colleague who is also studying for the Functional Skills Level 2 Maths.

James is a very friendly tutor who is really helping my son gaining confidence in Maths. My son has made really good progress and is now in top set Maths in year 5.
He is organized and is giving my son regular practice test.
He is also very dedicated and go over the answers that my son gets wrong. Finally, James is very flexible and has changed the lesson time when we needed it.

We hired James to help our 10-year-old prepare for the 11+ exam and he did a fantastic job at teaching both maths and non-verbal reasoning. He is a great tutor who was very patient and resourceful and was able to build on our child’s strengths as well as vast improve in the areas that needed work.

My son is bright but has been through a lot emotionally recently. I made the decision to apply to Tiffins in Kingston on his behalf and find a tutor who would be willing to teach him an hour a day for around four weeks prior to the exam.

James has not shirked from tackling aspects of my son's learning which are challenging, consequently he prioritised my son's weaknesses and gaps in knowledge, which in my son's case is centred around maths. My son's maths has improved significantly to the point where we are cautiously optimistic about him getting into Tiffins.

With Covid we’ve been having Skype sessions online which has worked well.

James very quickly established a great rapport with my Y5 daughter through online tutoring. My daughter is thoroughly enjoying the sessions and is more motivated than ever. She is much more confident with her maths after just a few sessions, and finds that James' clear explanations enable her to quickly grasp concepts she was previously struggling with. James has also helped her to discover her own strengths in logic-based reasoning problems through his positive approach and encouragement.

James was very patient with my daughter in preparation for her independent school examinations. He inspired her to work and complete practice papers in her own time after the lesson. James also helped my daughter prepare the interviews and presentation.

James tutored our son to help with gcse work in his year 11.
He was always punctual and friendly and the weekly session was always done on with a focused approach and the conversational work was relaxed which really worked for our son.
I would strongly recommend him as good and reliable tutor.

My daughter was having difficulty with French and German languages at GCSE level. James tutored her for a short period of time from February to May and I am glad to confirm today that my daughter achieved a pass in both subjects. James is extremely conscientious and cares deeply about the progress of his students. I would strongly recommend him as a private tutor.

James tutored me in basic German for several months in 2016. I found him to be a very approachable, patient and encouraging tutor with good knowledge of his subject. We covered both grammar and conversation and he found a way to make this stimulating and productive. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him as a tutor.

I studied basic Spanish at school, but I forgot most of it and lost any confidence in using it. James gave me regular tuition for about a year, during which my Spanish improved significantly. James is reliable, encouraging and brought the best out of me.

Having learnt german at school I wanted to refresh my knowledge prior to a trip to Germany later this year. I have had several lessons with James and have found him to be a very patient and capable teacher with a great knowledge of his subject.

I have a 16-year-old taking GCSE this year and 15-year-old studying French from scratch to take GCSE next year. James has been great for them both. He makes his lessons stimulating and is patient, encouraging, reliable and punctual. He has excellent knowledge of his subject and a real passion for teaching.
