About Nina
Have you studied French before but still feel unable to actually use it?
Maybe you know grammar and vocabulary, but lose everything when people start speaking. Maybe your pronunciation keeps getting in the way. Maybe you've reached a level where you keep studying but no longer seem to progress. Or perhaps you're starting from zero and want to build the right foundations from the beginning.
This is where I do my best work.
If you've been thinking “I should be better at French by now”, I would be especially interested in working with you. Very often, the answer isn't simply to study more. It's to find the right place to restart.
I teach complete beginners through advanced learners. I particularly enjoy working with people who:
- have studied French before but still feel stuck;
- understand more than they can comfortably speak;
- struggle to understand natural spoken French;
- want to improve pronunciation or reduce a persistent accent;
- have reached a plateau and want to move beyond it;
- want to accelerate their progress with a more individualized approach;
- are beginning from zero and want to develop strong spoken foundations from the start.
I was born and raised in Quebec, and French is one of my native languages. My own spoken French is clear, standard Quebec French, but I can also help learners understand the differences between formal French, everyday Quebec French and more strongly regional speech. My goal isn't to teach you a collection of Quebec slang—it is to help you understand real people and choose language that fits the situation.
Languages have been a lifelong passion for me. I grew up multilingual and later learned additional languages through very different routes, which eventually led me to spend years studying and observing why some approaches help adults acquire languages while others leave them knowing a great deal about the language without being able to use it comfortably.
I have previously taught French and English professionally, including work at a language school as well as private and corporate language training. Many of my past students were adults who needed to turn limited classroom knowledge into practical spoken communication.
Additional keywords that describe my works include: tutor, teacher, coach, Canadian French, professional, gain confidence, advance quickly, French for English speakers, fast learning for adults, worked with kids.

I don't begin with a standard curriculum and try to fit every student into it. I first listen carefully to how you hear, remember and produce French, what you already know, where communication starts to break down, and what may be slowing your progress. Then I build the learning path from there.
For one learner, the priority may be pronunciation or hearing distinctions that have never become clear. For another, it may be turning isolated vocabulary into longer, more automatic pieces of spoken French. Someone else may need to rebuild missing foundations, improve listening comprehension, strengthen vocabulary, or simply become comfortable speaking without constantly translating and second-guessing every sentence.
The first lesson is therefore both a real lesson and a diagnostic one: we start working immediately while I identify the areas that are likely to give you the greatest improvement.
My lessons can include conversation, pronunciation and sound work, listening with authentic audio and video, vocabulary and phrase-building, grammar and writing when needed, repetition exercises, and personalized practice between lessons. The amount of homework depends on you and your goal. If you're learning without a deadline, I prefer to keep the process enjoyable and sustainable. If you have a specific objective and limited time, we can work with a much more structured and intensive plan.
