About Ruadhán
I have been learning Spanish from the early age of 8 and picking up French at school along with Spanish at 12 years old. I continued to study both at the University of East Anglia where I specialised in translation and interpreting, as well as pragmatics and oral production achieving distinction in final year and graduating with First Class Hons in 2018.
In my 3rd year, I spent 7 months in France where I was a translator and administrative assistant in a language learning summer school in the Champagnes-Ardennes region, I studied for 5 months at the Université Clermont-Avergne, before moving to Granda where I spent another 5 months studying at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting.
In Dec 2019 I graduated from the University of Bath where I had studied for my Master's in Translation and Interpreting (French and Spanish). Here I learned industry standard skills for professional interpreting and translation.
From 2014-2018 while at UEA I was a language ambassador, involved in giving foreign language workshops and leading language-learning activities to a range of school ages, leading to a regularly visiting year 13s at Notre Dame Sixth Form in Norwich to prepare from for their French exams.
Here, I provided wekly 1-2-1 French oral tutorials offering personalised year-long guidance based on reformed French A-level syllabus. By keeping a detailed activity record, I tracked each student's progress in order to effectively liaise with their teacher. I organised and executed individual and group mock oral exams over 2 days, where I provided feedback, individual revision targets in line with syllabus criteria, and facilitated peer-to-peer feedback in order for students could learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses to encourage critical reflection on their own performances.
I have previously taught as an English assistant while in France and have also privately tutored Maths and Science.
I qualified for my C1 DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) in 2018.
I'm learning Russian and German for fun at the moment :)

Let me be clear: foreign language exams are difficult, outdated and require preparation from even the 'best' student. But you, yes *you*, can beat the exam just as well as anyone, and I'll show you how. We'll do exercises and use a range of audio material, gearing you up to past papers so you are ready to put your new skills in practice come exam time.
My methods are tried and tested with A-Level students, so let me help you crack the exam by offering specific exam techniques, and drawing on the professional language skills I have honed during my Master's in translation and interpreting. We'll review English grammar in order to help you grasp foreign grammar, and utilise advanced note taking techniques so you can excel at the listening section of the exam.
I also believe that tutoring should complement the class room, so I would be inclined to work at the same rhythm as your teacher and possibly cover any content that you have not understood, as well as focusing on your exam preparation.
The structure of my lessons are never rigid and always have your interests and needs at heart. This means you have just as much input as me in what we cover grammar wise and what you're finding challenging.
I'm excited to help get you achieve the grade you deserve, so are you ready?
