About Emily
I've been teaching French in small classroom settings since 2004 at UNC-Chapel Hill, Centre College, and Augustana College. I have an M.A. and Ph.D, but what sets me apart is how much I love working with students one-on-one. I love grammar and the more "difficult" parts of learning French, and I work hard to make your learning fun and to help you feel empowered and ready to take on that French test, paper, or presentation. Let's find out what you want to learn, and I'll make a plan for us that fits your needs, your learning style, and your interests. Allons-y!

We work together to see what your level is and what your goals are, then I help make it fun. I'll empower you with one-on-one activities that build your skills and confidence, then together we can create meaning with the language.
First, we will warm up with a little easy speaking, usually about the subject we will be working on, then we set a goal for the session. I have experience with grammar, vocabulary, writing and speaking, as well as reading and cultural elements. A general goal of every session is to get you comfortable with whatever you are working on and to empower you to use these skills with me by the end of our time together that day.
I have a Master's degree and a PhD, and I've been teaching French at the college level since 2004. I work well with middle and high school students as well. One of my goals as your tutor is for you to enjoy learning and want to use your skills, and so I love to give you music, tv, podcast, and film suggestions.
