About Mado

My name is Mado. I am nineteen, French, and I grew up in Paris before my family moved to the south of France. I am a law student: I did the first two years of my degree in Nice, and I am now spending my third year at UCD in Dublin.
There is something I like about this situation. I came to Ireland to improve my English, which is probably your first language, and here I am helping you improve French, which is mine. We are doing the same thing from opposite directions — which means I know exactly how it feels to search for a word and not find it, and I will never make you feel silly for it.
I chose Erasmus because I love traveling and meeting people from everywhere. I chose law because I like helping people, and teaching comes from the same place. I am also very sporty: I have played a lot of different sports, football is my favorite, and I am looking forward to trying Gaelic football while I am here.
I have babysat regularly for several years, so I am used to keeping younger children engaged and knowing when they need a break. I also helped my younger brother prepare for the baccalauréat, the French equivalent of the Leaving Certificate, which taught me how to explain the same rule three different ways until one of them finally clicks.

We work through dialogues and invented scenarios, adapted to each student’s age, level and interests. The goal is to make each lesson feel relevant to you and to encourage you to use French naturally, rather than simply studying it.

We also spend real time on pronunciation and accent, because that is where confidence comes from. The French r, nasal sounds, the letters you never pronounce — we practice them out loud, patiently, and I show you exactly what your mouth is doing.

We also watch short clips from films, series or cartoons. Then, you tell me what you understood, we pick out the expressions French people actually use, and we replay them together. This helps you become familiar with the way French is really spoken, beyond what you might find in a textbook.

French grammar and spelling can be challenging, but you don’t need to get everything right from the beginning. Mistakes are simply part of the process. My lessons are a place where you can get things wrong without any embarrassment. We take the time to understand the rules and practice them through real examples, so that grammar becomes something you can actually use rather than simply memorize.

Writing matters too, because it gives you the opportunity to put everything we have learned into practice. I can set a short text between lessons and correct it in detail, helping you identify your mistakes and understand how to improve.

**For students preparing the Junior or Leaving Certificate, we also work on the exam format itself, with particular attention to the oral: the document questions, the picture description, and speaking confidently under time pressure.

Lessons generally last one hour, but I am happy to make them shorter or longer depending on your needs and preferences.
