About Layla
I have experience tutoring GCSE students at home in Bristol, including both group and one-on-one sessions. I achieved an A at French A level and a 9 at GCSE, and am currently working towards a degree in French and Italian. Both of my previous paying students have achieved above their target grades at GCSE, and the voluntary lessons that I provided for a class of 7 in my school were reported as being very useful.

I try to stick as closely as possible to what the student is currently covering in class, so as not to overwhelm them with too much information at one time. This also allows them to feel more confident in lessons, and therefore leads to more effective learning both in and out of school. Typically, I would bring worksheets to each session, and would begin by asking if they would like help with any homework set in school that week. When this has been covered, I will normally ask if any topics that have come up in school since I last saw them need to be re-explained, and if so, I'll explain it and use a relevant worksheet / exercise to reinforce this and allow them to practice. Around the time of speaking exams, I tend to focus the sessions on conducting mock speaking exams so that the student has a feel for what to expect, and so that they can practice, as without French speaking family members this can be very hard to do, unlike reading, writing or listening, as it's so interactive and requires quite a lot of spontaneity.
