About Rochelle

With seven years of vocal coaching experience, I specialize in developing singers’ technical skills and emotional authenticity to create compelling, confident performances. I work with a diverse student base including young performers auditioning for schools and shows, college voice students refining their craft, adults returning to singing for personal fulfillment, and working musicians pursuing professional growth. My teaching emphasizes breath control using diaphragmatic support, efficient vocal fold closure, resonance development, and accurate pitch to establish a healthy, versatile vocal foundation. More than technique, I help students explore expressive phrasing, dynamics, and storytelling to communicate the heart of each song. I employ technology extensively—recording and playback for real-time feedback, piano and backing tracks for pitch and rhythm support, and digital apps for ear and rhythm training—to create an engaging, interactive learning experience. I encourage creativity through songwriting and improvisation, helping singers cultivate their unique artistic identity. My repertoire coaching includes pop, jazz, musical theater, R&B, and contemporary music, tailored to each student’s voice and goals. I also offer audition preparation, performance coaching, and vocal health guidance, helping students build stage presence, manage performance anxiety, and maintain vocal longevity. My teaching studio is a supportive, motivating space where singers feel empowered to grow technically and artistically with confidence and joy.

The voice is a living instrument, constantly evolving with our breath, our bodies, and our experiences. My teaching centers around cultivating awareness, technique, emotional integrity, and cultural sensitivity to help singers grow into expressive, resilient artists. Awareness is the foundation of everything—learning to feel where breath originates, how sound resonates, and where tension might be interrupting flow. I work with students to connect mind and body through posture, breath work, and release exercises that support functional, sustainable technique. As we build a strong technical base, I emphasize clarity in phonation, agility through registration, and resonance tuning to support both range and tone. But singing is not only a mechanical skill—it’s also an emotional act. I encourage students to bring themselves into their music, to ask what a piece means to them and how they can tell its story authentically. We explore vocal colors, dynamics, and inflection as expressive tools, and I often use storytelling, character development, and improvisation to deepen their interpretive choices. Culturally, I invite students to look beyond the Western canon and engage with a rich array of traditions, from Afro-Cuban rhythms and Arabic ornamentation to Indigenous chant and contemporary protest music. Each genre is approached with research, respect, and openness. Through this process, students become not only more versatile vocalists but more informed, empathetic musicians. My studio is built on curiosity and reflection—I encourage students to observe their process, track their progress, and view challenges as part of a natural, nonlinear path toward mastery. I see my role as both guide and collaborator, holding space for each singer’s voice to grow in its own way, at its own pace. My ultimate goal is to help students claim their voice—not just sonically, but fully, as a form of expression, presence, and connection in the world.
