Hi! I’m Esme, a qualified Foundation Phase teacher and Kinderkinetics specialist. I teach Afrikaans and English with fun, play-based lessons that build confidence, language skills, and gross motor development. My approach to private tutoring is holistic, playful and learner-centred, with a strong focus on helping children feel confident, capable and motivated to learn. As a qualified Foundation Phase teacher with an Honours degree in Kinderkinetics, I understand that children learn best when lessons are engaging, interactive and developmentally appropriate. I intentionally combine language learning with movement, play and practical activities to support both academic progress and overall development.
I am fluent in English and Afrikaans and am able to teach and support learners in both languages. This allows me to adapt lessons to each child’s home language and learning needs, especially for young learners who benefit from clear, nurturing communication.
In a typical lesson, students can expect a fun, structured session that includes a warm-up activity, focused learning time, and interactive exercises such as games, movement, storytelling or hands-on tasks. For language lessons, we work on reading, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, writing and speaking skills. For motor development and sport skills, lessons focus on gross motor coordination, balance, strength, agility and sport-specific skills, always presented in an encouraging and age-appropriate way.
My lessons are aimed primarily at young children from early childhood up to approximately 13 years of age, including Foundation Phase learners who need extra academic support, confidence building, or developmental stimulation. I also support children who benefit from movement-based learning, structured guidance, or a more individualized pace.
What makes me unique as a tutor is my ability to blend education and movement, creating lessons that are not only effective but enjoyable. I strive to create a safe, positive environment where every child feels supported, understood and excited to learn.
