I tutor all primary subjects, from early phonics and arithmetic all the way up to SATs. I also have experience tutoring GCSE English, with very good knowledge of GCSE English content and assessment objectives. . My lessons typically last about an hour, but with younger children I usually recommend two 30 minute segments with a break in between. Lessons can be up to 2 hours for GCSE tutoring.
Regardless of your child's age, attainment level at school, or interests, my main goal is to help them feel empowered and supported-- every child is uniquely intelligent and, with the right support, can thrive in academic settings. For KS1 and lower KS2 pupils, I make a point to incorporate as many learning strategies as possible, often including games to keep things interesting. I use many techniques to assess children's learning: from formal assessment methods (though I do try to avoid these wherever possible), to asking questions and using tiered worksheets to determine the challenge level they are best able to work at. For upper KS2 and KS3 pupils, I take a more structured approach to learning, and will recommend lots of flashcards, practice papers, and lessons on particular grammatical and language concepts.
I have a First Class MA (Hons) from the University of St Andrews and a PGCE with QTS from the UCL Institute of Education. In the autumn, I will be returning to university to get an MPhil at Cambridge.
