About Randy

I am an experienced educator, former New York City Assistant Principal, and Head of Differentiated Education with a strong commitment to helping students develop their academic abilities, build confidence, and achieve meaningful educational success.

I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education from Relay Graduate School of Education and completed advanced studies in School Building and District Leadership at the College of Saint Rose. I am also certified in both General and Special Education in New York State, with additional qualifications in educational leadership.

Throughout my career, I have served as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, instructional leader, and school administrator. These experiences have allowed me to work directly with students across a wide range of academic abilities while also supporting and coaching teachers in effective instructional practices.

SAT Testing Experience:

During my tenure as an Assistant Principal, I also served as an SAT Testing Coordinator and Reviewer, gaining direct experience with the administration and expectations of standardized assessments.

This experience, combined with my background in literacy instruction, academic intervention, and individualized student support, provides a valuable perspective on helping students prepare for the SAT.

My professional background includes differentiated instruction, curriculum development, instructional accommodations, and the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Having worked at both the classroom and school leadership levels, I bring a comprehensive understanding of how students learn and the instructional strategies that support their success.

I recognize that standardized assessments can present unique challenges for students, and I believe that effective preparation should strengthen both academic skills and confidence.

Above all, I believe in meeting students where they are, recognizing their individual strengths, and creating a supportive learning environment where they feel respected, encouraged, and empowered to achieve their goals.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that every student can achieve meaningful academic growth when provided with individualized instruction, effective strategies, and the confidence to approach challenging assessments with preparation and purpose.

Teaching Methodology:

I take a student-centered approach, beginning with an understanding of each learner's academic strengths, areas for growth, and individual goals. My lessons incorporate differentiated instruction, explicit teaching, scaffolded support, guided practice, and ongoing assessment to promote meaningful progress.

For SAT preparation, I emphasize the development of strong reading comprehension, critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and written language skills alongside effective test-taking strategies. I help students understand not only how to identify correct answers but also how to evaluate questions, eliminate incorrect choices, manage their time, and approach unfamiliar material with confidence.

Instruction is tailored to each student's individual needs and includes targeted skill development, practice questions, timed exercises, and personalized feedback.

I emphasize patience, encouragement, and active student engagement while helping learners develop greater confidence, independence, and effective study habits.

Lesson Structure:

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with 30–45-minute sessions available depending on each student's individual needs and preparation goals.

Sessions are structured around clear objectives, targeted instruction, guided practice, and feedback. Depending on the student's needs, lessons may include reviewing practice assessments, strengthening foundational literacy skills, analyzing SAT-style questions, and developing strategies for improved accuracy and time management.

Who I Support:

I provide individualized online SAT preparation and academic support for high school students across a wide range of academic abilities, including students with disabilities, students requiring additional academic support, and advanced learners.

Areas of instruction include:

- Digital SAT Reading and Writing preparation
- Reading comprehension and critical analysis
- Vocabulary development and words in context
- Grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
- Written expression and effective language use
- Identifying central ideas, inferences, and supporting evidence
- Test-taking strategies, pacing, and time management
- Practice assessments and targeted skill development
- Foundational literacy and English language arts support

My goal is to help students strengthen their academic foundations, approach the SAT with confidence, and develop the critical thinking, literacy, and independent learning skills necessary for success beyond the examination.
