About Jesse

My approach to teaching is deeply personal. I grew up in a small hometown where my mother was a beloved science teacher, and I learned firsthand how powerful kindness, consistency, and genuine care can be in the classroom. Her wisdom continues to guide my teaching, and I strive to create the same sense of trust, enthusiasm, and connection that made her such a meaningful educator to her students.

Outside of teaching, I am an artist who works across many creative mediums, including shoe design, music production, fashion, and 3D design. I bring creativity and real-world connections into my lessons to help students stay engaged and excited about learning. I also maintain an active lifestyle and strongly believe that a healthy body supports a healthy mind, which leads to more focused, confident, and effective learning.

About the lesson

I believe learning should feel empowering, engaging, and fun. My first priority is always understanding how each student learns best, because recognizing individual learning styles is the foundation for real growth. When students feel seen and supported, they gain the confidence they need to take risks, ask questions, and truly learn. My sessions will start with a conversation with parents and/or students to see what works and what doesn't, what support is needed, and how we can make the best environment for our learner!

I tutor elementary-aged students in English and math, creating lessons that are creative, accessible, and tailored to each child’s needs. I strive to make learning enjoyable while building strong academic skills and self-belief. I am a patient, relatable teacher who understands that students must feel inspired and confident before they are ready to absorb new information.

I bring over 12 years of teaching experience across a wide range of educational settings, including serving as a lead teacher at a private Waldorf school in Brooklyn, working as a private homeschool teacher, tutoring SAT test prep students in the Bronx, and supporting learners as an elementary substitute teacher and paraeducator for children on the autism spectrum. I am also certified in Cambridge International Education for Middle School English Language Arts, allowing me to support strong literacy and critical thinking skills.

I have extensive experience working with children with diverse learning abilities and learning disabilities, and I tailor my approach to ensure every student feels capable, supported, and proud of their progress.

For me, teaching is about more than academics. Teaching is about helping students believe in themselves and discover the joy of learning that all too often gets crushed early on.
