About Kiana
I graduated from Biola University and USC with bachelor's degrees in Biomedical Engineering, after which I enrolled in and graduated from Summit Learning Teacher Residency with a credential in teaching chemistry. I've taught high school chemistry within the San Mateo Union High School District for the last 6 years. I have also had experience tutoring a wide variety of subjects but primarily math and science, as those are my expertise.

If you're somewhere between middle school and high school and needing support in science and math, I'm here to help! Not only do I have experience in tutoring math and science, but I also have a teaching certificate in chemistry and have taught high school chemistry for the last 6 years. My background as a teacher means I have insight into how the education system works and can suggest common resources that may be available to you at your school, I can also support you in positively collaborating with your own teacher.
During a session, I will always check in with you to see if there's something specific you want to get out of our time together. I want to make sure you feel like your time spent is helpful to you. But I also understand that sometimes it can be daunting to fully know what you need support with. As they say, you don't know what you don't know. I will generally ask what you're currently learning in class so that I can get an idea of what topics you are working on. From there, the rest of our time each session will be some combination of content review/re-teaching, preparation for class, and/or application of skills via problems.
My teaching style focuses on skills and building routines. My firm belief is that if you have a strong foundation in skills and problem-solving routines, the context may change but you’ll still have an idea of how to approach it.
