About Sean

I was Head of English and Drama at the London School of Russian Ballet for two years, responsible for delivering the whole curriculum, and I have tutored English for 13 years.

Over 100 of my students have achieved top marks in English: grades 8–9 at GCSE, and A* or A at A-level.

I have taught all the major set texts on the main UK syllabuses. Most of what decides marks in English is essay technique: planning, building an argument from the text, and using context and critics without losing the thread. It is a skill, and it can be learnt.

I trained at drama school and work as a theatre director, which helps with set plays in particular: we look at how a scene works on stage as well as on the page.

Most of my work is with London's top private tutoring agencies, and I have been flown abroad several times to tutor individuals and groups.

I have an enhanced DBS check, renewed every year. I am happy to send you a copy.

My experience:
- 2 years (2019–2021) as Head of English and Drama at the London School of Russian Ballet
- 6 years (2013–2019) teaching at Westminster Tutors, a London sixth-form college
- 4,000+ hours of tutoring and 500+ students, mostly with London's top private tutoring agencies
- 3 years as an admissions examiner for an Oxford college

My education:
- University of Oxford: Philosophy, Politics and Economics (BA, First Class)
- University of Oxford: Philosophy (Masters)

I always tailor my lessons to each individual student. I do not come in with a pre-prepared plan for our first lesson: I see where you are, how you like to work, and then we go from there.

Before our first lesson, I offer a free 10-minute intro phone call.

After the first lesson, if you want to proceed, I will send you a plan of study. If you'd like, I will send you written feedback after every lesson.

I test my students regularly, so we have a concrete measure of progress, and all of my tutoring is geared towards the exam.
