About Sam
I am a relaxed and friendly tutor with experience teaching and tutoring both children and adults. I used to teach English as a Foreign Language in several foreign schools, teaching ages from pre-school to 16-years. I have more recently tutored adult military personnel in achieving GCSEs. I have three degrees, including an MSc in Political Science and a BA in Ancient History, and have achieved top grades in all. I am an enthusiastic learner and believe that this enthusiasm is key to achieving academic success - because of this I place prime importance on a general understanding of academic subjects that can spark engagement from the student.

My lessons are, above all, designed to engage the student in the subject matter, stimulating their interest and encouraging enthusiasm and a strong grasp of the fundamentals of the subject. Once the fundamentals are in place and the student is fully engaged in the subject, we can focus on particular areas of interest as well as those areas that are most relevant for attaining success in exams and coursework. Alternatively, we can continue to work together to explore the subject more generally and examine the detail of areas of interest as we find them! My lessons will involve a lot of discussion, exploration of ideas and critical thinking, as well as plenty of visual learning.

Perfect! In the short time my daughter has known Sam for help with A’Level politics he has been supportive and organised and communicates and responds promptly. He has also given further information and revision material for her to use.
