About Stephen
Engineer primarily in Semiconductor and Automotive industries, then Physics tutor to students of top UK private schools and Hong Kong International Schools.
Stephen graduated with a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Birmingham, in 1990. Following graduation Stephen left the U.K. for Japan to begin a 15 year career in engineering. Transferring to Hong Kong in 1992, Stephen continued to apply his knowledge of mechanics, electricity, semiconductors, and optics providing technical support in China to the high technology & high precision manufacturing industries. In 2009 Stephen's passion turned to education where he found rewards tutoring Physics, Maths and Science.
For more than 10 years Stephen has taught Physics up to GCE Advanced, IBDP and Cambridge Pre-U levels. Alongside Physics Stephen has also taught Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology from Key Stage 2 & 3 through to I/GCSE, primarily focused on the U.K. systems of Edexcel, CIE, AQA, OCR and WJEC exam boards. In addition to tutoring coursework, Stephen also has extensive experience assisting students with entrance exam preparation for applications to top British boarding schools, common entrance exams, personal statement composition and interview technique. Stephen has on occasion assisted university science & engineering undergraduates with Physics refresher courses.
Stephen's teaching style begins with cultivating his students' understanding of core Physics principles so they may apply that understanding as broadly as possible. Stephen likes to bring his subject alive with real world examples, incorporating small practical demonstrations and developing his students experimental technique and report writing skills. Finally, Stephen teaches a strategic approach to tackling exam questions with an aim to maximise his students' potential to obtain the full marks allocated per question and how to avoid common pitfalls.

I have a self-created course of lectures covering the entire GCSE, A-Level, IBDP and Cambridge PreU syllabi, designed specifically to introduce and build on core Physics concepts in a methodical and logical manner with practical demonstrations and examples of real world applications. I take great care in correcting misconceptions students may have picked in school and provide them with the tools for self development and further learning.
