About Rachael
I read Politics and Commerce at university after taking two gap years and working in several industries, then began teaching at a large comprehensive in north London. From 2015 I worked in international schools in the UAE and Malaysia. As a deputy headteacher I was responsible for assessment and led the introduction of AI literacy for teachers and students.
In 2021 I discovered futures studies, which led me to an MSc in Education Futures at the University of Edinburgh, completed with Distinction. I now run The Education Futurist, an education consultancy, lecture at the London Interdisciplinary School and am co-authoring a book on futures thinking for Edward Elgar.
At school I was a capable student who often felt disenfranchised by what I was asked to learn, and that experience shapes how I tutor. I work patiently with students who have lost confidence in a subject, and I make sure each one understands why it deserves their effort.

I teach through problems and questions. Each lesson starts from a case, a current issue or a piece of your own writing, and the economic or political theory follows from there, because students understand it far more securely once they have used it to explain something real. Having led assessment as a deputy headteacher, I am also explicit about how examiners reward analysis and evaluation, and we practise writing to those criteria.
For the EPQ and IB Extended Essay, I help you refine a question narrow enough to answer well, then support the research and argument through questioning and feedback on drafts, so the finished essay is entirely your own.
Personal futures coaching and career advice draw on my MSc in Education Futures at the University of Edinburgh, where I developed the Futures Cycle method, to help you explore possible futures for yourself and decide on next steps you can test.
I hold the NPQH and an MSc with Distinction, am a Fellow of the RSA, and spent twelve years teaching and leading in schools in the UK, the UAE and Malaysia. I currently lecture at the London Interdisciplinary School.
Lessons last an hour, online or in Worcestershire, and suit GCSE, A level and IB students aged 14 to 18, as well as school leavers, gap-year students and undergraduates.
