About Reidun

I have played the flute and piccolo for most of my life and have not lost my love of the instrument. I took private lessons for eight years and have played in a jazz band, and have been part of a community band for years. Teaching is one of my passions and I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience. I am also able to change my instruction style to enhance the student's learning and enjoyment of playing.

About the lesson

Lessons are for the beginner to intermediate player. Beginners are instructed in how to assemble the parts and properly care for the flute, posture and breathing techniques, fingering for notes and use of a fingering chart, lip embouchure to produce the tones, reading music, how to play different types of notes and musical scales. I follow Rubank or other lesson books that progress lessons from beginner to advanced level as the student improves, and try to add lessons with simple tunes to keep the lessons interesting. Adequate practice time is encouraged. Lessons are progressed to improve quality of tone, and ability to play in tune. I assess the playing level with students with some background to determine what skills they have mastered and from which to progress their skills. I am open to incorporating the student's goals and input in what they wish to learn to play.
