About Anna

Dia Dhaoibh! My name is Anna and I have just completed my Leaving Certificate. I am a Gaelgeoir who is passionate about the Irish language. I believe that it is incredibly important to impart confidence in those who are learning Irish, and to pay close attention to their strengths, weaknesses, and progress.

I have previous experience in tutoring Irish at Junior Cycle level, and in preparing and tailoring classes to a student's level and learning requirements.

About the lesson

I understand that everybody learns differently and struggles with different aspects in learning anything, particularly a subject as broad as a language. This is why I offer personalised tutoring, with the aim of tutoring a student in as specific and personalised way as possible. I have previous tutoring experience in Irish, from which I developed this method. I believe that done correctly, Irish tutoring can be an incredibly rewarding experience for both student and tutor.

I use textbooks, dictionaries and grammar reference books to prepare notes and lessons in accordance with a student's progress, difficulties and interests between classes. The first few lessons are used to understand the student's level and understanding of Irish, the aspects that they struggle with, and how best to assist them in learning. This means that I can provide a personalised approach to helping the student in a way that best suits them.

As lessons continue they become more structured as we methodically work through improving the student's understanding and competence in the language, with regard to grammar and vocabulary, etc. I ensure to consistently check in with the student on their feelings about their progress, and what aspects they feel they would like assistance with.

I encourage an interest in Irish outside of the classroom, as a living, breathing language - after all, beatha teanga í a labhairt (the life of a language is to speak it). Irish is a beautiful language that is always worth learning. Therefore, I am happy to tutor those struggling with Irish in school, or those who wish to return to it later in life, and are seeking a solid foundation in the basics and to build a thorough understanding from there.

Lessons take place online (on FaceTime, Skype, Zoom or any other platform that suits), and are typically 45 minutes or an hour, depending on preference.
